Jorge Campos wins Surrey Unsung Hero Award

Ironsides Rugby Club’s very own Jorge Campos has been named the winner of the Surrey Unsung Hero Award.

Recognising his exceptional dedication and service to the club and selected by the Surrey Rugby Panel, Jorge will now go forward as the county’s nominee for the national Honda Volunteer of the Year award, with the finals set to take place at Twickenham HQ at a black-tie dinner awards ceremony.

A cornerstone of Ironsides Rugby, Jorge’s tireless work spans nearly every area of the club. As first team manager and senior Men’s section secretary, he handles everything from match day logistics to significant administrative tasks. He also runs the senior Men’s club’s social media, organises events that bring club members together. Jorge is deeply invested in coaching, offering his expertise to the women’s team along with regularly refereeing for youth age groups.

Jorge’s commitment goes even further, from managing player kits to supporting all teams from 1st to 5th XV as a player himself, his influence is felt across all levels. His impact touches more than 150 male players, 100 women players, and hundreds of juniors.

The club’s Director of Rugby described Jorge as “the glue that holds this place together. Without him, we wouldn’t have the same sense of community and belonging”.

Known for his humility and boundless energy, Jorge Campos truly embodies the spirit of volunteering and is a worthy candidate for national recognition.
