U18’s English Lambs School Debut for Joe Hughes

Ironsider Joe Hughes made his international debut playing for the English Lambs against Irish Exiles on Sunday 29th January 2023.

Winning his 1st cap, playing #8 for the English Schools representative side.

Immensely proud Dad and ex-Ironsides Youth Chair, Nigel Hughes, told our roving reporter that Joe and his team mates lost (32-41 points) a pulsating game, playing “heads up” running rugby, in the true “Corinthian” spirit of the Lambs in a game that turned against the boys in the second half.

The English Lambs were founded in 2006, to create openings for boys to showcase their rugby skills at a representative level, when they had been unable to do so due to other commitments or lack of selection opportunities.

Joe, who is currently enjoying playing in his last year as a sport’s scholar at Stamford School, started playing rugby at Ironsides, alongside older brother Sam. His last season being at U11’s before the family moved to Norfolk.

We wish Joe good luck as he makes the transition to senior rugby.

Once an Ironsider, always an Ironsider!
