Ironsides News

It’s been another great fun season of cup rugby competition for Ironsides Youth age groups - challenging themselves against teams from all over Surrey in the Waterfall and Quins Cup Competitions. We take stock of results from finals weekend.

Ironsides U12s teams all had marvellous cup runs this year with the A team beating Chobham on final’s day to win third place in the President’s Cup, having lost to eventual cup winners London Irish at the semi-final stage. The U12 Bs came 4th in the Chairman’s Cup, losing to Old Cranleighans, having stormed through the early rounds with some wonderful rugby. The U12 C team have also played some great rugby and finished runners-up in the Secretary's Cup.

Ironsides U13s achieved an unprecedented triple this year – with the A team clinching the President’s Cup with a 4 – 1 win over Dorking, the B team winning the Treasurer’s Cup 9 – 5 against Reigate As, and the C team running out 9 – 2 winners against Farnham to win the Secretary’s Cup. You can read more about the U13s remarkable achievement in our latest Age Group Focus here.
Ironsides U14s concluded their good cup run meanwhile, beating Richmond 29 – 17 to win third place in the Treasurer’s Cup.

Ironsides U15s won the first silverware of the season, clinching the Presidents Bowl with a solid 29 - 15 victory over Old Whitgiftians. Well done to all the boys!
Ironsides U16s opted out of entering the Surrey Waterfall Cup for the 18/19 season after an absolute mismatch of opposition last season. A series of 10 home and away fixtures were organised over the season - with Ironsides winning the vast majority of these games. A team was also entered into the Quin's Cup Competition – narrowly losing to Dorking in the Hampstead Cup Final.
Ironsides Colts (combined U17 / 18 squad) also entered two sides in this year’s Waterfall Competitions and made it through to clinch the Treasurer’s Cup – beating big rivals Farnham 10 – 0 in the final. You can read a match report here.
Congratulations to all our teams for playing some wonderful rugby with passion, skill, and resilience. We look forward to more challenging cup Rugby next year!
