Ironsides U9’s Big Day Out - Big Game 14

Ironsides U9’s had a ‘never to forget’ day out at Twickenham on Saturday for the Harlequins Big Game 14.

As half time approached the U9 squad all took off their tracksuits and ran down from their seats towards the pitch. As the whistle blew, the gates opened and the team were let onto the pitch to the applause of 60,000 rugby fans. The children all loved it, as did the Coach, playing on the famous turf of Twickenham!

Our opposition was Portsmouth, which consisted of 10 minutes, 10 a-side touch.  Ironsides put on a great show of running rugby as they scored 5 tries to Portsmouth’s 1.  All the training paid off with the team passing and supporting incredibly well. In defence they were up quickly like a green Ironsides wall!

Once the match had finished the squad headed straight for the posts for a team photo, a quick 2,3 Ironsides chant and to clap the crowd.

From the way the children played, maybe one or two from the team will be following Kyle Sinckler and have the chance to play on the pitch again in 12 or so years time!

Thanks to Ironsides and the Harlequins organisers for giving the kids and the Coach the opportunity to play at the mighty Twickenham and the amazing memory all those involved will take away with them.
